Something for Everyone PDF Print E-mail

Many people who volunteer don’t even consider themselves as volunteers.  As a result much of the work that volunteers do goes unrecognized.  The volunteers just consider that they are just helping out. The reasons that people volunteer are personal to them and varied.  They include putting something back, personal development, helping a family member or friend or just supporting a worthy cause.

Through BOOST we want to promote and celebrate existing volunteers and active citizens and the good work they do.  The range of volunteering activities in Bedfordshire and Luton is staggering, from sports to arts, from young people to the elderly, from informal organizations through to national charities.

Helping others in your local community might include transport for a sports team or neighbour, coaching a sports team, being a scout leader or helping with a community project. Other volunteers might be helping with sitting on a committee, being a school governor or using practical skills such as painting or putting up a fence.  It is all volunteering.  The impact of this work to the community is huge, it enriches lives and makes Bedfordshire a better place to live.

For the volunteers or active members of the community getting involved and volunteering is often the most rewarding thing that they do.  Don’t take our word for it, speak to others who already volunteer and unanimously they will endorse it.  BOOST and London 2012 want to use the Olympic Games as a catalyst and an opportunity to inspire more volunteers, celebrate existing volunteering and help make Bedfordshire a better place to live. We want to hear about people making a difference in Bedfordshire as active citizens and volunteers.  Why not send us your story or pictures?

Bedfordshire is a diverse community where volunteering makes a huge difference to the lives of thousands of people of all ages and backgrounds.   BOOST also wants to attract new volunteers to put something back, make a difference and get involved in doing their bit for Bedfordshire and Luton.

There are several volunteer centres within the county located in strategic locations. They provide a wide range of volunteering opportunities including sport, charity work, arts, administration and so on.
