Volunteering PDF Print E-mail

Volunteering is the life blood of sport, arts and culture. Thousands of sports clubs, interest groups and voluntary sector organisations are sustained by an army of volunteers.  London 2012 will be a huge opportunity for volunteers both within the capital itself and also within regions hosting visiting teams, their athletes and families.

We believe that increased involvement in voluntary activity will bring social benefits to the region particularly in the fields of skills, employment, education and participation in sport and culture. The London 2012 Games is being used as a catalyst to inspire more people to be involved in their local communities.

At Games time, London 2012 will require 70,000 volunteers to support the delivery of the Games and this number will be split across specialist and generalist roles. 250,000 people have already registered their interest in being a volunteer for the Games, 31,000 of which are from the East of England.

*The volunteer registration for the Games is now closed

Opportunities within Bedfordshire

BOOST is working hard to attract a number of visiting teams and their athletes to our county.  There will be opportunities for volunteers to help with a wide range of tasks including;

  • Helping act as a ‘welcome host’ at receptions and events
  • Potentially providing accommodation to a family of an athlete
  • Helping with logistics around events, parking, marshalling etc
  • Administration support for different activities
  • And a wide range of other tasks

We want people to come forward locally and tell us how they can help and any relevant skills and experience that they have to offer.

Volunteer Centres

There are several volunteer centres within the county located in strategic locations. They provide a wide range of volunteering opportunities including sport, charity work, arts, administration and so on. They will also be playing a role in helping develop local volunteering programmes linked to the Olympics.
